Being in BA, Job Growth

When chemical engineer Alisha Malhotra and polymer scientist Asima Chakravorty moved to Broken Arrow, OK, to work for Paragon Films, neither had ever visited the state before. Yet today, both say the move was not just the right choice but a transformative one.

“You can really feel the growth happening in Broken Arrow, and that’s what makes it so appealing,” said Chakravorty. “Everyone is so welcoming, with new construction, new cafés, Saturday farmers market and plenty to do, yet it’s not too crowded.”

Their experiences send a clear message to professionals choosing where to build their futures: Broken Arrow is a city on the rise, and it is ready to welcome new talent.

What Led Them to Broken Arrow?

Malhotra, originally from Louisville, KY, and most recently in Asheville, NC, began searching for a new role after her paper mill employer closed. A recruiter connected her with Paragon Films, and she was impressed enough to fly out for an interview. Instead of the usual rental car and quick visit, Paragon employees picked her up at the airport and spent the day showing her Broken Arrow, touring apartments, restaurants, and local spots to help her feel welcome and get to know the community.

After 17 years in Richmond, VA, Chakravorty felt ready for a fresh start once her son left for college. Never having been to Oklahoma, she arrived for an interview with Paragon with some reservations, but the company’s warm introduction quickly put her at ease. The experience left such a strong impression that she took the job, moving to Broken Arrow a year ago, where she and her husband appreciate the kindness of the people and the city’s inviting atmosphere.

What Made Broken Arrow Stand Out Over Other Cities?

Both chose to live in Broken Arrow for its convenience, affordability, and quality of life, even with Tulsa nearby. They especially appreciate the low traffic. Chakravorty’s commute is just seven minutes, and Malhotra enjoys the ease of short, stress-free drives.

“My budget goes so much further here, and I love the modern, sustainable homes,” Malhotra said.

From the start, they felt the city’s momentum through new cafés, expanding neighborhoods, and a growing energy that reminded Chakravorty of Richmond a decade ago—only cleaner, more organized, and less crowded.

What Is Life Like After the Move?

Beyond providing strong career prospects, the professionals quickly discovered that Broken Arrow offers a dynamic community, with plenty of experiences and countless ways to connect with others:

On the career side, Broken Arrow brings a built-in work community to a strong professional environment:

  • Professional organizations, such as the Junior League and Young Professionals, foster networking.
  • Opportunities span the aerospace, oil, engineering, and technology sectors.
  • American Airlines’ major maintenance hub nearby adds to the engineering ecosystem.
  • Paragon organizes outings to pickleball leagues, disc golf, and baseball games, which helps newcomers settle in quickly and build friendships.

Would They Make the Move to Broken Arrow Again?

Absolutely - both say they have no regrets!

They feel supported, challenged, and connected, and would make the same choice again without hesitation. Malhotra encourages young professionals to take risks and stay open to new possibilities.

“I arrived in Broken Arrow without knowing anyone, but the experience has changed my life for the better, being the best thing that ever happened to me,” she said.
For anyone looking for opportunity, community, and room to grow, Broken Arrow offers a place where careers and lives can flourish.
